Prepress Software :: RE: InDesign PDFs imported into Quark 4 crashing Quark o...
===========================
Hi nitey4ever, ANY process you can dream up, I can automate for you. That includes using PDF optimizer, or EPS to PDF to Proof or whatever, all applications, any process. If you can map out and vette a process and workflow that will work, I can automate that. Most of the stuff we have talked about here can be done for a few hundred bucks by paypal. So, if you decide what would work nicely for you I can automate it in a few hours and your problems are solved for good. Let me know if you want to get it done professionally. Also, PDF/X-1a is pretty irrelevan... - Read More..

Computer To Plate :: RE: How hard do we need a densitometer?
===========================
I agree that a densitometer is better than nothing, but CCD plate readers are usually preferred as they analyse the captured image based on the image contrast to the background, therefore giving accurate and consistent results. Different kind of plates (conventional, thermal, photopolymer, of various brands) differ in non-image area reflectance and graininess, can fool a densitometer in various ways. I once made an experiment comparing an IC-Plate reader (CCD) to an LED-illuminated portable densitometer when reading a Kodak violet photopolymer plate dot percentages. The results differed by a lot. I also measured th... - Read More..

Desktop Publishing :: RE: EPS problems converting from Quark 7 to 6
===========================
Yes, that's a major point that beermonster just made. Since we are speaking of converting docs between versions and even more of a nightmare, going backwards not forwards. Anytime you convert between versions it is of highest importance that all your links be updated and current, fonts all activated correctly, that a document is at its full integrity, THEN convert. To do so without having it COMPLETELY squared away will cause all kinds of stuff to go wrong. What beermonster brings up is a great diagnosis I think. If... that image was imported.... then resized, resaved, or edited... but was never updated.... - Read More..

Computer To Plate :: RE: Lie Clocks in Heaven...

I couldn't help but post it. I just can't believe that someone so phony, insincere, and lacking in true credentials may wind up running our country. It's from bad to worse as yet another person is there mainly by a familial connection. Hell between Bush & Gore was a choice between two rich sons of former senators. WTF? It's like a Iraqi election practically where the only ones to vote for have no business running anything really. Hard to believe the US can't do better than someone like this who has never even held a real job. Unbelievable. We sure n... - Read More..

Prepress Software :: RE: Falling level of expertise in Graphic Arts, first post

I also took graphic communications when I was in high school doing a time share program with the county's vocational school. Yes, I'll admit I thought I could be a designer just because I could put a few graphics and text together. I never experienced a problem with printing to our Ricoh Laser printer. It was once I started working at a print shop that I became aware of production. I was shocked at not knowing a thing. The current IT guy quit after like one month. I had to figure out everything the hardway - Quark and Adobe Forums. I spent hours on those forums at once. Now those hours I don't t... - Read More..

Two Questions for JoePostscript: 1. Have you worked with or tested Agfa's Azura plate? 2. Do you recall the thread where you offered advice on getting dealers on the same playing field by bidding on plate pricing per square foot? I read that last week and searched for it today, but I'm not coming up with it. Thanks - Read More..

Computer To Plate :: Front Ends & Plates
===========================
Hello All, I'm looking at updating our Brisque 4.1 workflow. We are a small shop with a couple Ryobi's and a new 528 Komori. We switched from CTFilm to Creo CTP (Trendsetter 400 Quantum) about 4 years ago. Now that Kodak killed Brisque we're looking at upgrading the front end as well as the plates. We've been using the Western/Lastra/AGFA LT-2 plate without problems. That plate deal is over and now it's time to move on so I'm looking at the front end upgrade and a new plate deal. I have 2 issues to look at 1) front ends and 2) process less over process plates. Of co... - Read More..

Computer To Plate :: Lie Clocks in Heaven...
===========================
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are allthose clocks?" St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move." "Oh, " said the man, "whose clock is that?" "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie" "Incredible, " said the man. "And whose clock is that one?" St.. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have ... - Read More..

Preflight Software :: RE: PDF Problem shifting in Quite Impose when Printed
===========================
Hello, It sounds like your page size and page setup is not correct to the printers sheet size and file page size? You are simply printing this PDF to a printer by itself does it shift to the side? If you place it into Quark or InDesign will it shift when output? This sounds odd, without an actual copy of the file I can't think of what else to try. How much is it shifting and is it side & top, side & bottom, or just sideways. can you post or send a screen shot to demonstrate what exactly it's doing? Maybe could be more help if I couls really see a... - Read More..

Digital Printing Forum :: RE: DS Screen Jet520 Press Web Digital Inkjet
===========================
After looking at this press at Graph Expo I have the following observations. The press has about the same quality output as the Kodak Versamark. It uses heads and print technology from Epson which is probably better than anything Kodak has. The limitations are around the paper you can use and how well the color will print on a given paper. Much like trying to run a non-epson paper through their inkjets you get extreme varying results. So, calibration to each substrate will be an issue. The target for this device and quality they are calling "Transactional... - Read More..
