joe is right again here (bloody hell joe - thats twice this week ) i'm not convinved you have a quack issue (jeeez did i just say that!) - i think you have an issue with the placed image in quack have a damm good root-around in that first if the resulting image in the new document is smaller - take a step backwards - in the original file is the image up to date in usage, or has it been resized in whatever app it was created in and not updated in quack? if, when you resave the quack file - does it ask you to update images? if so that could be the problem _ expertise: nothing - Read More..

This simple file was created in Illustrator CS2. Saved as an Illustrator PDF. Imposed using Quite Imposing. File looks normal But when I go to print, it is shifted off the page. I tried to print on my desktop laser printer and my Doc 5000. Same results. Any ideas what may be causing this? - Read More..

Prepress Software :: RE: Viper Installation Help

Hello, Welcome to the group. This is really old software and technology of course and will be hard to get going and maintain. You need to seek out an Agfa tech or an used equipment dealer who handles this stuff to help. I'm not saying give up on getting help here, but to run a printing company this is mission critical importance. Also, you have a challenge to learn it all as well. So, where are you located? Looking on the web and engaging folks here is a great idea and you may find some help. But I would also pursue finding a local used prepress dea... - Read More..

Prepress Software :: RE: Falling level of expertise in Graphic Arts, first post

It helps to be in an environment where you can watch over someone's shoulder and learn how to do some of those things - and I know that's sometimes hard to find anymore. Personally, I'm online every day, following all the major Macintosh troubleshooting and news sites, participating in various troubleshooting forums, in addition to working with the hardware and software in my daily job duties and troubleshooting for others. Just being able to absorb the information doesn't do you much good if you can't "practice" using what you've learned somewhere. So look for somewhere you can get that hands-on practice. It's ... - Read More..

Not necessarily. Like I said you have to look at the errors produced to see if they are acceptable to you. PDFX1-A is a strict profile looking for specific things wrong with the PDF file. For instance we use OPI image swapping and the OPI comments embedded in the PDF file will trigger an error with the PDFX1-A preflight profile, but that's acceptable to us because we need the comments. So you really have to look at the details. The main thing to look for is whether all your fonts are embedded, and whether your images are at a resolution you are expecting, like greater than 72 DPI which is only good for screen/web di... - Read More..

Prepress Software :: RE: Need a imposition software. New to this..
===========================
Preps is hard to learn but has an amzing amount to features. Quite Impositing has a way to build an imposition, then record the steps, then apply these steps to other impositions. I personally use PDF Snake, but my imposition requirements are quite simple - in my simple world, it is all cut sheet 4 up type work for digital printing (on demand books). I have created an excel spread sheet that enables the user to enter the book page size and then the imposed page size and it figures out the settings automatically - i tried to learn Python well enough to have it convert it auto-magically but i am too stupid apparen... - Read More..

Print using 'In-RIP Separations', that worked for us. Plus, you really need to upgrade from Pageflow to Nexus, I'm surprised you're not having more problems than that. - Read More..
