Subject: Single Pages - Quark (AND) InDesign, Fast, Easy, Accurate
==================================================================
That's the good thing I like about PDF-X-Robot is that I developed it for both Quark Xpress and Adobe InDesign to provide a common preflight and output method for both applications. One license comes with support of both. The other solution is pretty much a consumer level tool when compared to PDF-X-Robot. PDF-X-Robot will do what you want and is way more - Read more

Art Directors Forum :: RE: Open Source Software in Graphic Arts
===============================================================
Hello, Welcome. I am working at a 30 million dollar a year printer and I run the prepress and digital printing departments. I see zero penetration of these open source apps into graphic arts use. The only Open Source that I do see is people using Open Office to send simple text docments and such. Quark, Indesign, and Adobe Photoshop are such complex applications - Read more

If I had a dollar for all the bad files I have been given, I would be rich. My favorite though is the CMYK tif files that are in PDF files, and need to be spot colors. "But it looks like the spot color, why can't you use it" Ahhh, if I only had a dollar. Me and spot color problems, boy that is at least a few jobs a day. - Read more

Computer To Plate :: RE: Fuji LHPJ-2 on UV printing Machine and Baking
======================================================================
We use the Fuji LHPJ, no bake on hybrid UV press and run lengths and durability are very good. We haven't actually had a plate give out and run short and medium runs on that press. UV doesn't require that a plate be baked, not if it's a good plate like the LH-PJ. Your press chemistry, the fountain, blanket wash, roller cleaners, plate cleaners, all need - Read more

PDF-X-Robot prepress software :: RE: Quark 7-6.5 issue
=======================================================
I have seen same problem here. I am thinking of writing an application that will inspect Quark and InDesign files, then open them in the appropriate version of the application. One common app that is a droplet, opens quark and InDesign files in their correct versions. I think it would be a good idea. We have had same issues here. I have my operators dragging - Read more

Computer To Plate Forum :: RE: Kodak Prinergy vs. Heidelberg Prinect
====================================================================
This is a pretty easy call IMO. I would have to recommend Heidelberg because they are going to be a better vendor overall. Heidelberg Prinect has more broad capability and potential to automate and integrate to other devices, like pressroom, etc. So there are some features that give Prinect an edge. Prinect and Prinergy are both nice modern workflows with - Read more

The graphic designers and file preparers, the ones that don't care are definitely job security for all us prepress dudes. It's what we do. The graphic designers that will take it and learn and try to do a better job, they can bolster their own job security. To any graphic designer or file preparer out there... Computer To Plate Forum :: RE: CIP3 set up with navigator
=========================================================
This post is not answering your problem actually, but may be of help. I've tested a couple of CIP4 generation sw, ability to preview was an issue and finally ended up with purchasing Inkready from Ultimate Technographics, which I recommend to anyone: all you need is a PC with Acrobat installed. Inkready accepts PS AND PDF, takes about 15...25 seconds - Read more

PDF-X-Robot prepress software :: RE: Quark 7-6.5 issue
=======================================================
When I tried "Get Info -> Open With -> Change all" the get Info dialog automatically reverts back to Quark 7 after I open v7. Ive tried progams such as RCDefaultapp and Filebuddy to no avail because of the type and creator codes being the same. If I could somehow change change launch services to think only 6.5 exists to open a doc then I could always open - Read more

I am not sure, is this a Xitron RIP, correct? What version of RIP and what platform etc. is something i would add here so that someone can nail it for you when they see your post. The file comes out but is not carrying the name of the plate file. Normally the CIP3 files are carrying the naming of the original imposition 1 bit TIFF files? What is the name of the - Read more

Computer To Plate Forum :: RE: Kodak Prinergy vs. Heidelberg Prinect

We went with an esko-Graphics SCOPE workflow to replace our Brisque and it is the most powerful and advanced workflow. SCOPE may be more power and capability than most people need but there's nothing I have seen that is as powerful and advanced. The Esko has been extremely well supported and the support casts are cheap compared to others. Compared to Kodak, we - Read more

Preflight Software :: RE: Can copy someones inhouse preflight checklist
=======================================================================
Love the checklist, but unless you are dealing with people who actually care about the final product, then this is sometimes useless. I am not putting this down, and yes, there are many designers that would want to havethis to get better at what they do, but not all. I have a few customers that are given files, they make updates and changes, then pass them - Read more

Computer To Plate Forum :: DS Screen as compared to Agfa
========================================================
Any device of DS Screen is better than any comprable device from Agfa. This is true as gravity. DS Screen just makes the most reliable and technically advanced equipment overall compared to anyone. Agfa is pretty good and I can say that many people are successful with Agfa. But Agfa is not as good a manufacturer and just has a more spotty record than DS - Read more

Willbe, one other thing is check to make sure that in the setup when you are making the PDF, that the colors go unchanged and not to composite RGB or anything else. This is the only place I have seen it when exporting from Quark, and not printing to distiller. - Read more

Here is something I copied from www.software-robotics.com main page on the PDF-X-Robot software. As far as I have read, this is the lifesave to a steady workflow in medium to large printing and publishing companies. JoePostscript is the creator of the software, as well as someone who uses it every day, and watches over this forum. "PDF-X-Robot controls every setting. - Read more

Any hack can just send a pile of crap to the printer with no regard of doing a good job. Thus the high turnover in graphic design positions, people who don't care about integrity of their work get whacked. The designer/file preparer who works with, and listens to his printer, prepares files well, etc. That guy is a professional who the printer would recommend - Read more

Hi everyone, We are currently looking at upgrading our Brisque v5 RIPs.
